References to sapphire gemstones can be found in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.  A sapphire was used as adornment on Aaron's Ephod (Exodus 28: 18) and is also mentioned in Ezekiel's vision of the New Jerusalem, the adornment of precious stones representing the glory of the New Jerusalem, where God will dwell with His people (Rev. 21: 19).
