This impressive, sterling silver St. Andrew Orthodox cross is finished with a high-polished shine, and is defined by its three cross bars. The top bar is inscribed with Slavonic letters that stand for "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews". The middle bar, where the hands of Christ were nailed, is adorned with a sunburst design in the center, symbolizing the light of Christ. The cross's lower bar represents a footrest; some say that the slanted lower bar illustrates what was originally a support device, put on the cross to increase the discomfort of the one being crucified. This Byzantine St. Andrew cross is packaged in a lovely, blue velvet gift box, and includes a 24" sterling silver chain. A longer continuous chain may be ordered at an additional cost. Tradition suggests that St. Andrew taught with a three bar cross, using the lower bar to illustrate that those on the right side of Christ will go up to heaven, and those on His left will descend into hell.
